The best weather forecast platform for climbers.

We aim to become the single tool you use to determine where and when to climb, using

Satellite imagery.

The best meteorological models.

A climbing condition metric that learns directly from your input.

Well - Hi, I'm Eric.

Yeah... that was quick. There just me here, but I am happy you are taking a look around!

I would say CondiCaster started from a very common frustration: driving to the crag and finding it unclimbable. So i decided to solve this issue and somehow became an indi-software developper in the process.

In here, I mixed all my passions and glued together environmental science, statistics, data crunching and climbing into a forecast tool built for us all <3

Who am I

From lakes to statistics to meteorology.

When I wrote this paragraph I realised one could say I did not take the most direct path.

I started by modelling lake-internal physico-chemical processes. I had the chance to work in on beautiful lakes, reveal their secrets and publish science about places worth understanding. The science part of this, made me discover the world of statistics and modelling. Another beautiful world that I wanted to learn more about, so I decided to study again and pursue a degree in Data Science.

During this time, I fell in love (again) with numerical weather prediction and the idea that we can use math to not only describe small-scale processes in lakes, but also describe the enire friggin atmosphere! That eventually brought me to work at the intersection of meteorology and software development.

So I guess I took the detour via statistics: from describing small local lake environments to thinking about large atmospheric processes. Scenic route, yet not the shortest one.

I swear, I am climbing too!

Climbing fills the biggest part of my heart, and I am just happy this weird sport found its way into my life. Over the years, I realized that while climbing itself is great, the community is what made me show up over and over.

I started this project because I wanted to add my little personal touch to the climbing community. I wanted to use my skills to contribute something meaningful to a community that has given me a lot.

CondiCaster is where those pieces meet: environmental modelling, statistics, meteorology, and the very familiar question of whether the rock will be dry enough to be worth the trip.

So the idea of CondiCaster was born!

A weather tool for climbers! Built by a climber who likes forecasts maybe a little too much. I hope it gives something useful back to this special, weather-sensitive community <3
